Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), co-chair of the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus, announced on February 23 that Alameda County Health Care Services Agency in Alameda County, Calif., will receive a $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to assist HIV-positive low-income individuals. Lee announced that the funds will improve access to comprehensive community-based care for low-income people and focus on strategies to reach minority populations in the East Bay area. HHS’s HIV Emergency Relief Project grants provide financial assistance to localities that have been most severely affected by the HIV epidemic to enhance the continuity of high-quality care for individuals with HIV/AIDS.
