The Utah Department of Health is reporting an increase in STDs among state residents, with statistics showing that one out of every four Utah teens had chlamydia at some time during 2012. In addition, the report demonstrated a 71-percent increase in gonorrhea cases and a near doubling of syphilis rates. According to Communicable Disease Prevention Program Manager Lynn Minor, the younger community comprised 40–50 percent of all STD cases and individuals ages 15–24 accounted for 70 percent of all chlamydia infections.
