The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin a permanent supportive housing renewal grant of $1,369,420 to continue providing rental assistance and supportive services throughout the state to low-income individuals and families living with AIDS. This grant is part of $32 million in recent awards HUD will fund through its Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program (HOPWA). Cities and states throughout the country receive 90 percent of HOPWA funds based on the number of AIDS cases reported to CDC; 138 local and state authorities manage these funds by coordinating AIDS housing efforts with other available HUD and community-based resources. In the end, these resources provide assistance to more than 60,000 households each year by ensuring stable housing and reducing the risk of homelessness for those diagnosed with HIV.
