Researchers at St. Louis University are testing a combination of two medications to treat children with early stages of hepatitis B. Lead researcher Dr. Jeff Teckman of St. Louis University and Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center said the treatment comprised a weekly injection to help the immune system target the infection and an oral antibiotic medicine. Together, the two medications could provide increased protection against hepatitis B, which is particularly problematic among immigrants and children adopted from foreign countries. More than 350 million US residents have chronic hepatitis B.
