On August 14, the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois announced that the Bureau County, Ill., Sheriff’s Office had reached a settlement with a Chicago man who charged in a lawsuit filed last year that jail officials prevented him from taking his prescribed HIV medications for a week while he was held in a Princeton jail. In the agreement filed in federal court in Peoria, the sheriff’s office agreed to pay the individual $20,000 and to conduct mandatory training for jail staff.
