MyFoxDFW recently reported that due to Dallas County Health and Human Services recording an increase in new STD and HIV infections among youth ages 13 to 18, the health department’s director wants public schools to consider providing condoms to students. While the health department works diligently to prevent the spread of HIV and STDs, it also is working with the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) to update its sex education program. A recent survey reported that 25 percent of sexually active DISD students admitted they did not take measures to prevent pregnancy, which is almost double the national rate.
