Daily Review Atlas reported that the Warren County, Ill., Health Department has begun a new city program in Monmouth for the disposal of sharps, such as syringes, lancets, test strips, and needles, used for home healthcare-related self-injections. Warren County residents can obtain 1.4-quart sharps waste containers from the Warren County Health Department, located at 240 South Main Street, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. According to Warren County Health Department Director Jenna Link, the new disposal program is important since it facilitates removal of sharps waste from municipal waste, diverting it to approved medical waste facilities and helping to prevent injuries and transmission of disease through accidental needle sticks and punctures. For further information on the new sharps disposal program, contact the Warren County Health Department at (309) 734–1314.
