According to News2.com, a former student of Stratford High School in Berkeley County, S.C., recently tested positive for TB. The student was last enrolled at the school in November. The school contacted 176 students, staff, and faculty who may have been exposed in the classroom or bus and provided them with testing information. The Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) will provide free testing for students at the DHEC office or at the school, with written parental permission. DHEC expected to have results available next week. Parents may have their children tested at their physicians’ office at their personal expense. Also, parents who want their students checked even if the school did not identify them for testing will have to pay for the test. For additional information, call (800) 868–0404 or visit www.scdhec.gov/health/disease/tb.
