Tulsa World recently reported that, thanks to a $35,000 donation from the Osteopathic Founders Foundation, the Oklahoma organization Tulsa Health Outreach Prevention Education (HOPE) purchased a van for more portable community outreach efforts, including testing individuals for HIV, hepatitis C, and other diseases in a mobile and confidential area. The van has magnetic signs that staff can remove when more privacy is desired; the van also allows Tulsa HOPE to visit companies, commercial locations, and nonprofit organizations to perform testing where building space may not be ideal. According to Executive Director Kathy L. Williams, the van broadens the possibility of testing at many more sites and reaching more individuals. In addition, the back of the van opens, allowing staff to use the space as a display area at health fairs and other public events.
