Film for Teenagers--with Stars Who Have AIDS
Olszewski, Lori
July 21, 1988
Joan, a 21-year-old woman, is one of 156 San Franciscans 25 or younger who have AIDS. She is also planning on appearing in a movie called "Learn and Live," that will show young persons with the disease talking about their lives. Linda Udall of the San Francisco Department of Health's AIDS office is working with local documentary makers and the school system to coordinate the film. AT&T has contributed $10,000 of the film's $50,000 budget. Any profits from the film will go to AIDS education for teens. San Francisco's nationally acclaimed AIDS education program--the Wedge--brings people with AIDS, primarily gay men, into the classroom. Udall and the film's producer, Catherine Hunter, feel even more teens will pay attention to kids their own age.
