Man Accused of Having AIDS Wins Slander Judgement

A Multnomah County Circuit Court jury has awarded $175,000 in damages to a counselor, Timothy Shick, at the Lovejoy Surgicenter, ruling that he was the victim of intentional infliction of emotion distress by an anti-abortion protester who claimed he had AIDS. The protester, Priscilla Martin, accused Shuck of having AIDS and criticized his lifestyle as a homosexual. Shuck's attorney told jurors that her loud declarations about Shuck were motivated by personal hatred, while Martin's lawyer contended Martin's allegations were true becAUse Shuck has tested positive for an antibody that indicates exposure to the virus that cAUses AIDS.
