Inmate's AIDS Test

February 17, 1989
Washington Post (02/17/89), P. D4

A Maryland prison guard who fears he contracted AIDS when he helped save a prisoner from a bloody suicide attempt will learn in a week or two whether the man is HIV positive. In a suit filed last October, Olan Creek III asked a Washington County Circuit Court to require the State Division of Correction to test inmate John Marquet for the HIV antibody and notify Creek of the results. The Maryland Division of Corrections' policy is to test inmates only if they show signs of developing AIDS. Corrections officials will not comment because they say the inmate's medical information is confidential. However, Marquet has agreed to be tested and will notify Creek of the results, Creek's lawyer said.
