Objectives: : to study outcomes in HIV infected women who received aniretroviral therapy during pregnancy.
Methods: We observed 99 pregnant women in 1994-2003. Among them 47 received monotherapy with ZDV according to ACTG 076 protocol. From 1998 monotherapy was replaced by HAART regimen, 52 women were treated. We had 91 women naïve, and only 8 were experienced during pregnacy.
Results: Among HAART patients 10 had VL>10 000 copies, and 25 (48%) had undetectable VL (<400 and <50 copies/ml).The mean CD4 count during delivery was 501cells/ml. Eleven births were pre-term. In 32% of cases cesarean section was performed. No children were infected in this group, as well as in HAART recipients. At group of monotherapy 3 children were infected.
Conclusions: HAART and cesarean section is effective in prevention of perinatal transmission of HIV . The preterm delivery rate in HIV+ women is the same as in general pregnant women population in Poland.
