OBJECTIVE: - To evaluate the re-classification risk in HIV-1 seropositive patients at various clinical stages according to the CDC system.

METHODS: - Patients belonging to at risk categories were included: 25 homosexuals, 211 drug addicts, 22 heterosexuals. They were classified at the first medical check according to the CDC system: 40 CDC-II, 218 CDC-III. Selected patients were admitted to a follow up protocol (24 and 36 months). Every 6 months a clinical update was performed.

RESULTS: - The percentage of re-classified patients is as it follows TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME.

CONCLUSIONS: Immunological features and clinical evolution show that a high risk population is included in CDC-II patients, who appear less stable during the follow up (48% evoluted if compared with 30% of CDC-III).
