OBJECTIVE: Chiefly AIDS prevention inside the jail.

METHODS: Lectures on AIDS, teaching basic elements and stressing the disease means of contagion and of prevention, followed by a question-and answer session and making of educative material by prisoners, to be divulged inside the prison itself. This prison has an average population of 220 people and the number of prisoners allowed to each session was limited to 15.

CONCLUSION: The concern and attention manifested to the lectures by a small number of confined people, stirs up a confident feeling of participation, giving them a greater freedom to make clarifying questions which are completed with the educative material. We perceived that the sensation of taking part and of doing something makes people feel themselves more important and more attentive and that it is possible, even within the bars of a prison, provided that the correct methodology is applied, to form "multipliers" for AIDS prevention.
