Fears of a horizontally HIV transmitted infection through means other than those currently given credence are widespread and the object of many AIDS antidiscrimination campaigns targeted at adult populations. The problems of HIV-infected children have been practically shut out of these actions, while theoretical risks of infection as a result of routine kindergarden accidents cause extreme dismay on the part of parents and teachers alike. The substance of this discussion is the experience gained in dispersing information (through various means) as a part of the national pilot project "Aids and Children" in Germany and the analysis of the results of a poll taken among some 500 kindergarden and day care personell in Berlin and other large German cities. In addition, there is a focus on the difficulties and positive results of the actual integration of HIV-infected children in public day care and kindergarden facilities.
