CONTEXT: Study practiced on July 1989 within the framework of a medium term plan against AIDS. AIM: To determine the information sources about AIDS, to carry out a strategie of Health Education.

METHOD: A pool enquiry by bunches among a group of population aged 15-49 RESULTS: TV (41%), newspapers (28%) and radio (23%) are the main mass media used to give information about AIDS. Sanitary staff (2%) is rarely involved. Schools, churches, mosques and bills have been indicated by less than 2% of people.

DISCUSSION: Radio is mainly used by non-scholastic people and women are less informed about AIDS than men. Urban people have more access to AIDS information. TV and newspapers increase the information about AIDS more than radio. People are more frequently informed by friends and fellows; this last source of information increases a lot the level of knowledge about AIDS.
