OBJECTIVE: To measure knowledge and beliefs about AIDS among people with higher education level providing data to public health authorities for a better educational prevention campaign.

METHODS: In November 1990, a self conducted anonimous 20 items questionnaire was distributed during a philanthropic fair, to measure knowledge about AIDS, routes of transmission and prevention measures. In addition, respondents were asked about their age, gender, and level of education. Among 7760 individuals interviewed, 3025 (average age = 31 y.), were college graduated, and 1463 were male.

RESULTS: The following table presents the most relevent answers for the higher education level group: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME.

CONCLUSION: Generally, the target population is relatively well informed. However, the prevention campaigns should inform better on condom use. The results also suggest that the prevention campaigns should insist on that blood donation is totally safe.
