OBJECTIVE: We have tried to know the young scholars' view on the meaning of sexuality, sexually transmissible diseases and AIDS, as well as their major concerns in life.
METHOD: We carried out a research on 1972 young students of Government's Schools, secondary schools, of a city in the country, in the State of Sao Paulo, using interview and questionnaire as tools.
RESULTS: Most of the interviewed youngsters have difficulties to deal with human sexuality; they could not differentiate sex from sexuality; many of them stated that they have had STD; they demonstrated that they are scared about AIDS and have no information about AIDS pregnancy and miscarriage, etc.
CONCLUSION: There is the need of orientation for the young scholars on those questions as well to transmit general information to the children and parents, through educational programs aiming to attend on the real needs of the population in the communities.
