ORGANIZATION: The Health Protection Agency in Gothenburg in cowork with health authorities and voluntary organizations. Recruitment among people aged 18-25 on voluntary basis to whom information about HIV/AIDS/STD is provided. PURPOSE: The purpose of the Red Army - about 30 persons dressed in red overalls - is to be seen and recognized as a well known element at public events like popconserts and sportcompetitions and to bring the HIV/AIDS/STD questions to awareness among the audience, which at one concert can be 50-60,000 persons. The purpose is mainly to mediate the information about the importance of safe sex and condom use.

METHOD: During the activities the recruited Red army people are dressed in red overalls with "Gothenburg against Aids" printed on the back. Condoms are sold at a very low cost, brochures are disseminated and the audience is individually or in small groups reminded - "Be careful" or "Protect yourself". Questions can be answered during the short approach. About 10,000 condoms are e.g. sold during one day at popconcerts. Follow up studies are done through questionnaires answered by about 50 persons at each occasion.

CONCLUSION: These activities has been arranged since 1987 ans is nowadays a well-known element at public events in Gothenburg. The audiences and spectators are enjoying and recognizing the Red Army, and positive attitudes has been shown to this way of information.
