Positiv e.V.--the Federal Meetings of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Germany.
Int Conf AIDS 1993 Jun 6-11; 9:117 (abstract no. WS-D14-4) Doms U, Vorhagen W;
In May 1986 the first meeting of people living with HIV was held at the Free Conference House "Waldschlosschen" near Gottingen, initiated by persons affected. The response to the meeting was remarkable. For the first time in their lives many of the participants experienced a community of solidarity, where they could speak openly about the situation they lived in as HIV-infected people. Follow-up meetings were arranged, the "Federal Meetings of People with HIV" came into being. Up to this day 38 such meetings have been held with up to 50 participants each, giving important impetus to self-help activities of PlwHIV/AIDS on a national as well as on an international level (European Meeting of PlwHIV/AIDS, Munich 1987, European Meeting of Self-Help-Groups of PlwHIV/AIDS, Gottingen, 1992 etc). In order to plan and carry out the meetings on a continuous basis regarding organization and contents, Positive.V. was founded. This team of mainly PlwHIV/AIDS considers itself to be an interlocutor for individual needs and at the same time wants to set signals that go beyond the subjective situation of PwHIV.
