RESULTS: Regular evaluations of the campaign show that, after six years, the use of condoms is in constant rise. More than 50% of the sexually active population from 17 to 45 years old always use a condom when having occasional sexual intercourse. This rate is even higher in the younger generation. Condom sales are also steadily increasing in Switzerland. The promotion of condom use has not induced greater sexual mobility; youngsters under 20 years old have less partners and have longer term stable relationships.
CONCLUSION: The regular promotion of condom use through media channels can bring about changes in behaviour, forms a base for targeted prevention actions and does not produce effects that are contrary to the desired goals.
