Factors that influence counselling of women infected with HIV.

OBJECTIVES: To sensitize the participants in particular, & the public in general on the issues that influence counselling of HIV positive women in TASO.

METHODS: 1) Counselling 2) Group & Interpersonal Discussions 3) Participation in workshop. RESULTS/FACTORS: Client Related Factors: 1) Stigmatisation 2) Ethnicity/cultural values 3) Religious values 4) Power of women in their personal relationships 5) Position in family 6) Economic or Financial status 7) Language 8) Literacy/Educational level 9) Failure to respond to drugs 10) Health 11) Attitudes towards counsellor 12) Age of the client 13) Environment of counselling. Counsellor Related Factors: 1) Temperament of counsellor 2) Age 3) Sex Organizational Factors: 1) Limited Resources 2) TASO community initiatives program.

CONCLUSION: A multisectorial approach should be enhanced in dealing with women issues so as to help them cope with the HIV pandemic.
