OBJECTIVES: INDIA is a multi-lingual, ethic, religious, and a multicultural nation. Indian culture prohibits discrimination on grounds of Sex education, Religion, race and caste. No of restrictions on free Communication, Lack of property rights, free knowledge, women are the subordinate sex, relegated to the secondary status. Increased Prostitution, Broadcasting/Censorship, Observity Laws.
METHODS: 1. HIV Awareness programmes has to be implemented 2. Compulsory screening of Blood, 3. Provision of condoms in STD clinic. 4. Counselling services must be made available.
RESULTS: Multicentric research in India have revealed HIV-I -84%, HIV-2 4.5%, HIV 1+2 (Dual infection) 12% CONCLUSION & DISCUSSIONS: Laws play an important role in broad community based empowerment programme. This brings legal awareness among women. Requirement of Reorientation of the values beliefs, customs and the law that shape the perception knowledge within family and society has to occur. Still awareness has to be brought in the Indian Society.
