OBJECTIVE: To determine the factors associated with oral lesions in HIV-infected patients in Thailand.

METHODS: Eighty-six HIV-infected patients in southern and northern Thailand were enrolled (age range 19-62 yr., median 29 yr.). Extra-oral and intraoral examination was performed in all patients. The number of lymphocytes, antifungal therapy, habits of smoking and alcohol drinking were recorded in each patient. Odds ratio for presence of oral lesions was calculated using logistic regression analysis.

RESULTS: (table: see text)

CONCLUSION: Only the number of lymphocytes was a significant risk factor for the development of oral lesions.
