Objetives: To compare the annual population profile and the seroprevalence according to the principal risk behaviors that consults for the HIV infection status in a population of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

METHODS: From 1987 to 1995 we tested the HIV serology of 18458 serum samples patients who assist spontaneously to this laboratory (table: see text)

RESULTS: (table: see text)

CONCLUSIONS: Heterosexuals becoming the predominant group of consultant through all this years. Also the proportion of women progressively increased, though their seroprevalence decreased. We observed that the proportion of homo-bisexuals and IDUs for consultation gradually declined and this is a particular characteristic of our studied population, although the HIV prevalence considerably increased in boths groups.
