OBJECTIVES: 1.- Evaluation of serological markers of 265 Intravenous Drug Users IDU studied in 1990 and followed up to 1995.2.- Evaluation of total new seropositives detected between 1990 and 1995.

METHODS: Serological markers done by commercial methods. 265 IDU studied in 1990 and followed up to 1995 and the global seropositivs detected in the sanitary area Leganes-Fuenlabrada (Madrid ,Spain) by using an informatic register.

RESULTS: 1.- The acumulative serological markers and follow up of the 265 IDU were: (table: see text) The higher rates of seroconversion were obtained during 1991-92. 2.- The new seropositives per year detected in our area and the total number of serological demands received in our area were: 1990: 158/1002 (16%), 1991: 173/1293 (13%), 1992: 159/1960 (8%), 1993: 116/2014 (6%), 1994: 93/2324 (4%) and 1995: 80/2841 (3%).

CONCLUSIONS: 1.- High rates of prevalence and seroconversion in IDU to HIV, HBV and HCV have been observed.2.- Decrease in the number of new seropositives per year meanwhile there is an increase in the demands received.
