OBJECTIVE: To determine STD's place in HIV seroconversion among discordant couples

METHODOLOGY: 151 discordant couples followed for 4 years. - Gynecologic exam and HIV serology each 6 months to determine STD.

RESULTS: (table: see text)

CONCLUSION: It appears that STD among discordant couples in Zaire are not important and so not preponderant in HIV seroconversion.
