INTRODUCTION:The possibility of infection with HIV in accidental form is very little and infrequent in the world experience. We are interested in to communicate a seroconversion happening in our service as a consequence of an accident suffered by a nurse. Previous to this episode,8 more happened, fortunately without consequences for the worker. Description: HG. woman, 44 years, married, 2 children, university nurse. She has antecedents of transfusions of blood in 1985 with ELISA for HIV(-) the 9/may/1991. The day 26 December 1991 at 08,00 hours, suffered piercing wound in the index finger of the right hand with a Butterfly that had been drawn back from a sick person of being interned in our Service. She is carried out ELISA for HIV(-) the same day.Two hours after the accident begin to administer 500 mg of zidovudine/day for 55 days after which she had to suspend by vomits and jaundice. The evolution of the control is the following:6 may/92 ELISA(+) WESTERN BLOT:Indeterminate-28 may/92 ELISA(+)WB:Indeterminate-26 june/92 ELISA(+)WB:Indeterminate-12 aug./92 ELISA(+)WB:POSITIVE.Comments: The first case of seroconversion happened in our city as product of an accident in a sanitary personnel. If stend out the uselessness of the zidovudine like prevention the spite of their early and continued administration; also the ocurrence of toxic attributed hepatitis and the being discarded other causes. This case didn't communicate previously to application of the patient upon being secretly of summary the presented demand.
