ISSUE: Transvestite sex workers (TSWs) have poor access to HIV/AIDS/STD information because there is a lack of rapport with health providers.

PROJECT: Male outreach worker dresses-up like one of the transvestite and interacts with the TSWs at their working place and distributes condoms, provides HIV/AIDS/STD education and risk reduction counseling.

RESULTS: Trust built between the outreach worker and the TSWs gave way to the easy access to health information. During the interactions the TSWs expressed their need to be organized, recently the outreach worker facilitated the organization of the TSWs, The Queenly Queers, advocates for their right against police harassment.

LESSONS LEARNED: For the TSWs information is received better if coming from someone regarded as one of them.
