INTRODUCTION: Very few isolation of HTLV-11 virus were reported in the world that same as the HTLV-1 in drugs users and aborigines. Molecular studies allow to classify 2 types: the A(HTLV-11-MO) and the B(HTLV-11-NRA and G12). Previous studies demonstrated the presence of the HTLV-11 B in tobas and matacos of the Argenitnian north. In this work is described the molecular characterization of the HTLV-11 subtype A, in a injection drug user, with AIDS, inpatient in our Service Infectius Deseases, Hosp. Carrasco, Rosario.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: In 1993, 10 patient were studied young adults, 1 female and 9 masculine at random, having all conduct of risk of intravenous drug user. They were carried out serological detection, confirmation, in vitro amplification, clonation and study of sequence with more frequent methods. Discussion and result: Of the 10 studied patient 1 was positive for the HTLV-11 (N to the 0 power sample 8) confirming the presence of virus by means of PCR. The amplified product was a region of 590 pb of the gene of the gp21 transmembranaria of the cover using WH1-WH3 like external primers and WH1-WH2 like internal primers. The cloned in vectorial Bluscript and the posterior secuenciation of this region confirmed that the studied virus belong to the A subtype of the HTLV-11.
CONCLUSIONS: By the used methods remain demonstrated the presence of the HTLV-11, A subtype, in injection drug user with AIDS, being this letter the first description in our country in a patient with these characteristic.
