It was earlier suggested that it may be necessary to determine serology of sexually transmitted infections including AIDS in the immunocompromised persons such as leprosy( Hansens Disease) and Tuberculosis.Lamfers et.al ( 1987) reported one case of lepromatous leprosy associated with AIDS. As far as we know, there are no reports on the sexual behaviour of Hansens patients. We report in this communication our observations on the serology of STIs in Hansens patients serum samples. Two hundred and seventy six patients in the age group of 18 to 60 years and 233 control persons residing in the matched environment were included.Of the 276 serum samples from HD patients, none showed seropositivive for AIDS antibody. Also, none of the control samples was tested positive for AIDS antibody. However, we found 13.2% HD patients had associated pulmonary TB infection.Several of the HD patients were tested positive for syphilis and Australia Antigen. Sexual behaviour in Hansens Disease patients and in control subjects were studies. Implications of our findings shall be discussed.
