BACKGROUND: Lately the Ukrainian clinicians pay much attention to the preparation Manaxx (M) that is an alkaloid freeze dried extract out from the inner bark of peruvian liana Uncaria tomentosa. M is a complex of bioactive ingredients that acts as a natural anti-viral and immune system booster. It has been successfully used in Donetsk (Ukraine) to treat AIDS patients either as an isolated treatment or in conjunction with the conventional therapy. But the mechanisms of immunotropic, anti-viral and anti-neoplastic effects of this preparation are not clear today. The aim of this work was to study the action of the preparation on phagocitic link function of immunity - phagocytic index and number, nitrogen oxide production, IL-production and tumor necrosis factor (TNF). Were established the correlation equations of dependence structure - biological activityfor the alkaloids, catechines and antocyanines (the phenol compounds such as epicatechines Iand aglicones of proantocyanines) contained in M.
METHODS: The researches were carried out with the use of packages of the applied computer programs for mathematical simulation. Blood phagocytosis in vitro was studied.
RESULTS: The in vitro experiments showed that M exerts marked influence on functioning of various immunocompetent human cells. It is of great interest in connection with prospective potentiality of action by M on cytokine link of immunity in cases of AIDS-pathology. The received equations and spented simulations allow to make conclusions that the joint influence natural alkaloids and flavonoids, contained in a preparation M, renders unique anti-neoplastic effect and provides very good antitumoral activity.
CONCLUSIONS: The received results allow to make active development of new generations of anticancerogenic preparations on the basis of this natural raw material.
