Issues India is having one of the largest population of HIV /AIDS patients. With more than 40 million patients, most of the cases are acquiring HIV throgh sexual route.A large number of these male patients are Truck Drivers who stay away from from home for long periods.A study has been done to interview the low risk spouces of these patients for their HIV status and sexual practices in past and present. This is from Indore,a city with 3 million population

DESCRIPTION: 60 HIV Positive wives of Truck drivers were interviewed. All of them were awre of their husbands having sexual contacts enroute. Most of them were observant about falling health of their husbands in last 1-2years but were not able to ask about HIV testing. All of them came to know about HIV /AIDS only after severe infection or candidiasis or Tuberculosis. None of their husbands had been tested voluntarily before. Only one woman had suggested her husband for HIV testing. In past average sexual contacts were 5-8 per month. Their was marked reduced sexual contacts after the diagnosis. Surprisingly more than 75% women agreed that their partners had tried Anal Intercource in their active sex life. Only two were practicing even before falling sick. Only one woman had knowledge about her husband being active member of a Gay Club of Indore.

ISSUES: Low risk spouces are getting infection in India. Sex education of average women in country is inedequate to prevent aquisition of HIV. RECOMMENDATION: Sex eduation and awareness of HIV is still at a premitive level in average Indian society all attemts must be made to make women more aware of safe sexual practices and prevention of HIV.
