The Model is a theoretical abstraction of the history of HIV epidemics in the River Plate (Buenos Aires and Montevideo). It shows the interconnection between heterosexual, bisexuals, gays and transgenderal people, both transvestites and transsexuals, and lists and shows graphycally the several groups with MSM sexual contacts in the River Plate, their intersections and the way in which an individual can pass through them, carryining HIV, during at least twenty years. The several MSM subgroups detected show the non applicability of identity categories to HIV prevention, since categories such as gay, trasvestite, transsexual or bisexual are delluding to the prevention worker. The model shows also the interconnection of the several subgroups, suggesting ways in which behavioural barriers can be built among the groups or the different ages of individuals in a lifetime. The different prevention approaches applicable to the groups are three: the inner core of the epidemic is attainable trhough direct intervention and peer education, a second group can be attained through the media and a third group is only reached through structural modification, mainly school based
