ISSUES: for 15 years, hiv infected people who have their roots in michoacan mexico have lived longer once they have been diagnosed.it is evident that including antiretroviral treatment in mexico and in michoacan has sustantially dimished mortality but the high cost of medical attention couped with and increasing number of cases reported and hospitalized aids patient in the terminal phase obligate us to direct our forces toward strategies for the diminishing the social and economic impact of the epidemic on the population.the significance here is to integrate this same work program in the education, including opportunistic detection.

DESCRIPTION: using a base the tendence of the epidemic in michoacan in the ultimate five years wich models in increase of the number of cases of aids and a low asymptomatic carriers, michoacan increase the number of detections.the groups traditionally programed during 12 years for detection were sexual workers and mens have sex with mens.since the year 2000 this also includes too:migrants, families of migrants, university students pregnant womens, military personnel, user drugs, indigents.the number of hiv testing increasing from 5559 in 1998,5726 in 1999,11911 in 2000 and 23000 in 2001.

ISSUES: at this time were identificate a concentrated epidemic and a high number of asymptomatic carriers in comparison with significant low aids cases registred.also it has been shown that an increase in the other sectors detections offers the posibility give to asymptomatic carriers an adequate life and with a good quality integrated with their families and within society .

RECOMMENDATIONS:. the high cost of antiretroviral treatment, the presence of resistence and the colateral effects that are produced and deteriorate the health of these people obligate us to look a good alternatives wich will match there resolutions on the impact of the epidemic but a lower cost.
