ISSUES: Nepal shares its about two third border areas with India. Due to the open border and socio-cultural similarities of the Terai people with Indian people it is very difficult to check and control cross-border mobility and migration. Similarly, low level of awareness, high mobility, and illegal drug trafficking, cross border communities are more vulnerable to get HIV/AIDS, STD infection. It is not possible to prevent and control HIV/STD infection by interventions on one side of the border only. Taking this situation into account, Women Acting Together For Change (WATCH) has initiated the collaborative process of cross border awareness raising activities in collaboration with the Indian NGO Gram Niyojan Kendra (GNK/India).

DESCRIPTION: This paper will focus on the joint cross boarder awareness raising activities along with the border areas of Nepal and India. The processes of cross border awareness raising program include partner identification, strategy development, planning, implementation, and evaluation collaboratively. Awareness raising program includes use of multi-media like interactive poster/flip chart demonstration, street drama and video show.

LESSON LEARNED: Using of multi-media is found effective to gather mass, raise awareness, and build good relationship. Mutual respect, value and understanding is necessary for collaborative approach. RECOMMENDATION: This paper recommends applying the collaborative approach of awareness raising program for HIV/AIDS, STD prevention, and control.
