ISSUE: Series of 4 workshops focused on HIV prevention regarding that it has a starting point on the interaction with the psycho-social setting together with a knowledge of objective information about HIV

DESCRIPTION: Program of 4 workshops made up 3 that aim at improving the life quality of gay men by means of the discussion of typical social topics: couple (How complex relationships are), family (parents' knowledge on homosexuality, fatherhood possibility), and Sexuality (the way to relate with the others). Each of these 3 have the HIV prevention as a reference point including known concepts such as: Exclusive Sexual Couple (acknowledgement that couple stability does not protect from HIV) and Alternative Sexual Practices (no anal intercourse). The fourth workshop concerns Safer Sex. It begins with practical topics about anal intercourse (the correct use of the condom), and information about HIV and Transmitted Sexual Diseases. The workshops' methodology is based on learning between pairs and on the people own experiences. The number of participants is limited to 12 people to build up trust between the group sharing each one's experiences Learned lessons During the 2nd semester of 2001, 4 series were developed with an average attendance of 10 people per workshop taking part a total of 200 people approx. Evaluations made by the participants coincide with the introduction of prevention concepts, information about HIV, and the significance to discuss related social topics. In addition, it can be said that the participants of each workshop create friendship bonds between each other

RECOMMENDATIONS: Development of new follow-up methodologies in the medium term; and the creation of additional requested workshops regarding the participants needs, like workshops about Friendship (friend's influence in our own prevention), Religion (moral burden that affect prevention), and Violence (no self-confidence, self-care)
