ISSUES: Problems suffer by people living with HIV, HIV/AIDS prevention in its different levels, discrimination and violation of PWAs' rights.
DESCRIPTION: This project was performed by the PWA's community based group "Juntos por la Vida". The main objective of this project is to sensitize governmental decision makers about HIV/AIDS. It has meant a constant work and we have reached this goal through spreading information about problems suffer by PWA's in Arica, spreading information about primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. We have involved several governmental offices in our activities such as mass campaigns against HIV transmission, public impact actions, commemoration of Candleligth, Worldwide Day of AIDS. Also we have spread information about violations of PWAs' rights. In all those activities we have received support from governmental and private organizations and organizations which work on HIV/AIDS.
LESSON LEARNED: We analyzed problems faced by people living with HIV/AIDS in Arica, especially their socio-cultural needs which are not satisfied. So, we realized it was important to involve governmental officials-departments such as Regional, Provincial and City Government.
RECOMMENDATIONS: This project raises as conclusion it is important to promote the PWA's participation, in order to create links with the community. It is also important for PWA's to get visibility within the community
