ISSUES: The aim of the program is to lower transmission rates of HIV in Gitega region as of behaviour changes and to impvove the livelihoods of families affected.
DESCRIPTION: * influencing the intervening parties to head towards the communities and not the opposite. Oxfam is facilitating the moving of the SWAA animators team to reach the PVVIH in their living areas ; *training the technicians of health centers from all the Gitega region to the use of the new tests-sensible test as well as specific confirmation one-according to the measures of universal precautions ; *involving all the responsibles of the sectors in the setting of a common framework. This plan will help to improve the coordination and avoid activities overlapping ; *A "hill approach" allows the sensitization of the community. Hill commitees, wich have been set up by the food security project, are used to develop initiatives on livelihood development with AIDS affected household. They are chosen within local people according to a participatory step and are trerefore trained for "stepping stones" methodology. *Partnership with local associations to provide global care(medical care, counselling, income generating, children's scooling,...)
ISSUES: The partnership with the others favours the reaching of expected outcomes .
RECOMMENDATIONS: This strategy is recommended to be applied in other regions in Burundi
