ISSUE: Non Governmental Organisations and Labour Unions develop a net of research and advocacy of Human Rights and AIDS in Uruguay in order to revert habits, regulations, standards and laws that wound Human Rights.
DESCRIPTION: ASEPO (Association for the support of people living with HIV/AIDS) makes a call to organisations for the constituency of a Group of Research and Work in human rights and aids. Members: ASEPO, IELSUR (Uruguayan legal and social studies Institute). SERPAJ (Service for Peace and Justice) SMU (Medical Union of Uruguay) and PIT CNT (Workers' National Union) The group works in the following areas: Pertaining to labour rights area Due to discrimination or unfair firing in national Ministries or in private enterprises. Sanitary area collective medical assistance institutions for loss of right to assistance; Public Health Ministry for interrupting the availability of the ARVT and the city service of necropolis for the violation of the confidentiality. Social area Social Security Service for omission of services to people living with HIV/aids. Penitentiary area Advocacy. Situational report presented to National Commission of AIDS. Visiting different imprisonment centres. An interview with the Commission of Human Rights of the National Parliament.
ISSUES: Public Health Ministry. A writ of mandamus for the lack of ARVT. Necropolis City Service. A current discriminative regulation is made to be changed. Social Security Service. People living with HIV are again visited at home by the public notary for requested transactions and procedures. Penitentiary area A written settlement is achieved between the Public Health Ministry to provide medical assistance and to ensure the availability of medicines for the inmates.
RECOMMENDATIONS: To Foster the implementation of community nets and to encourage communication between institutions to work on complaints of violation of human rights where they occur and revert them with the help of several disciplines.
