ISSUE: Religion is central to the African and Kenyan Churchman is not concluded. The Christian religion proclaims freedom, love, and justice as some of its fundamental principles. Many Christians and abide by the teachings of the bible.
DESCRIPTION: To analyse and distinguish between biblical freedom (deliverance), which starts with salvation, and fundamental human rights as enshrined in the international human rights instruments. To identify certain human rights abuses in the church that is related to HIV. To raise human rights awareness in the church and draw the links between human rights, salvation deliverance and HIV/AIDS. To develop the capacity of the Church to be able to develop a holistic ministry and promote human rights and HIV/AIDS within the community. International human rights instruments including the African charter on human and people's rights. International guidelines on HIV/AIDS and human rights; human rights relevant to HIV/AIDS work; new applications; biblical teachings, biblical verses and the life of Jesus Christ Experience and results of the interviews carried out in churches LESSONS LEARNT: Complimentary link between human rights and the Christian salvation Church related human rights abuses brought out clearly. Capacity of the church to embark on human rights and HIV/AIDS work. Way forward: How churches can work with HR organisations RECOMMENDATION: Capacity of Christian leaders to will be strengthened to handle the situation Seminars can be organised in churches on the subject Stigma and discrimination will be reduced in the church and the community as a whole Church will be balance position to handle the epidemic Church can engage and develop holistic ministries which can benefit the whole community
