Introduction: The first HIV+ case in IRAN was found in 1998 in a hemophilic child. The number of cases increased up to 4400 HIV+ in 2003. The shortage of knowledgment and attitude of IRANIAN people about transmission and prevention routes of HIV/AIDS infection can be effective problem for the spread of HIV infection but some politic and cultural rules in IRAN coused some control on it. So the assessment of knowledge and attitude of general people for suggesting appreciate interventions is important. Materials &

METHODS: This research is descriptive assessment and cases of this research are 5000 people in Tabriz (one of the cities of IRAN), which are chosen in 2003 and were studied by Questionnaire contains 38 questions about transmission routes, prevention, and the kind of deal with patients. Data analysis was down with calculation of relative frequency, central tendency and disparity, analysis of variance and T-test by using SPSS10.

RESULTS: this assessment showed that the mean score of knowledge about transmission routes and prevention of HIV/AIDS infection was 61% and the mean of attitude score of general people increased was 67%. This study shows that 98.8% of people do not know if they are HIV+ or HIV-. 76% do not know how and where they can find they are HIV+ or HIV- and up to know only 4.5% in Tabriz has gone to HIV/AIDS consultation institutes.

CONCLUSION: It is necessary to propagation the preventional routes of HIV/AIDS by public conferences, exhibitions and public congress in each cities to introduce HIV/AIDS prevention centers and Institutes in that city or country. Keywords: knowledge - attitud - IRANIAN people - AIDS
