Illinois AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) Program Eligibility To be eligible for the ADAP you must have AIDS or HIV, and live in Illinois. You must fill out an application and renew your status on an annual basis. To qualify financially your anticipated gross annual income must be at or below 400 percent of the current federal poverty level for the size of the household: $40,840 for a household of one; $54,760 for a household of two. If you have no income you must include a Letter of Support form which explains who is covering your living expenses. All ADAP applications are reviewed and approved by program staff after verification of information provided on the application. Only signed and completed forms with required documentation will be processed. Completed applications are to be accompanied with proof of
In addition, a cross-match with the Medicaid database is done to ensure that you are not currently eligible for that program. ADAP Benefits Clients are allowed a maximum of 5 drugs in Category-I plus a reduced dose of ritonavir up to a total of $2,000 monthly benefit. Ritonavir acts in a synergistic effect to booster the benefit of certain other anti-HIV drugs. In addition, ADAP allows access to 3 other more expensive drugs in Category-V by prior approval. This means there should not be a problem if you need 4 or 5 antiretrovirals drugs plus ritonavir. Atripla, a three drug combination pill of Sustiva, Viread and Emtriva counts as three drugs although it is one pill. The same is true of drugs like Combivir (two drugs) and Trizivir (3 drugs). Some drugs that are not in Category I require a separate application, and have a certain number of slots available. These include Fuzeon, Aptivus and Valcyte. All ADAP drugs are currently purchased directly from Amerisource Bergen Drug at a discounted price and shipped to PharmaCare Pharmacy, for dispensing. Prescriptions must be sent or faxed to PharmaCare Pharmacy and clients receive their drugs via mail order. Clients must contact PharmaCare Pharmacy each month to confirm shipment date for the next scheduled refill. Program Restrictions Most states will first see if you are eligible for Medicaid or other programs before enrolling you into ADAP. If you are waiting on a Medicaid application or on Medicaid spend-down, you are still eligible for ADAP if you meet the program's requirements. You are not eligible for ADAP if greater than 80 percent of your drugs are covered through health insurance, or if you are eligible for medical assistance through the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Medical Assistance Program on the date drugs are obtained through ADAP. Also, you are not eligible if covered by the Medicare Part - D prescription drug plan and have assistance through Social Security "Extra Help" or assistance through Illinois Cares Rx. |
