Hepatitis Treatments and Vaccines

Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B vaccine series are covered. Unless HIV drugs that can also be used to treat hepatitis are counted, no indication that any hepatitis treatments (such as pegylated interferon, ribavirin or HBV drugs are covered by the ADAP program. Opportunistic Infection (OI) Treatment or Prevention

  • PCP Prophylaxis and Treatment : atovaquone (Mepron), clindamycin, dapsone, leucovorin, pentamidine (Nebupent), trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, pyrimethamine, trimethoprim, sulfamethoxazole, primaquine, prednisone, methylprednisolone

  • Herpes Infections : acyclovir, famciclovir, valacyclovir, foscarnet, trifluridine

  • Mycobacterial Infections (TB and MAC) : pyridoxine, rifampin, pyrazinamide, ethambutol, rifapentene, azithromycin, clarithromycin, rifabutin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxin, amikacin

  • CMV disease : ganciclovir (Cytovene), valganciclovir (Valcyte), Foscarnet, Cidofovir, *Prednisone

  • Fungal infections - including systemic fungal infection drugs, and oral and/or topical drugs for esophagitis and vaginitis : clotrimazole, fluconazole, flucytosine, ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), nystatin (Mycostatin, Nilstat), Caspofungin, Voriconazole, Butoconazole, Miconazole, Tionazole, Naftifine - topical, Amphotericin B

Medical Eligibility

Some treatments are availible under certain circumstances, or with Prior Authorization. These and the use of certain drugs for specific indications require a physician or nurse discussing case-specific details with the ADAP office. Immune Reconstitution, Wasting and Hypotestosteronemia are indications to call 207-287-4846

Patient Assistance Programs - Free or reduced price medications are offered by individual drug companies, as well as other organizations and foundations. All prescription drugs, including generic drugs, are made by drug companies. Information includes: Who you should call or e-mail about getting treatments,and financial and medical eligibility criteria. Although they will not automatically cover "the doughnut hole" or co-pays if you have Medicare Part D, some program are willing to make arrangements and even check out any benefits for which you are eligible.
