ATLANTA (AP) - In a June 13 story about the estimated more than a million Americans living with the virus that causes AIDS, The Associated Press erroneously reported the number of HIV cases in the mid-1980s.
There were an estimated 550,000 to 650,000 HIV cases in 1986, not 1.2 million, said Terry Butler, spokeswoman with the Centers for Disease Control ad Prevention.
