Computerized Screening, Inc. (CSI), today announced it has developed a customized version of its Health Station, an integrated health screening device that can now efficiently deliver critical treatment information to HIV/AIDS patients in underserved communities. Users of the Health Station can access a wide variety of free resources for medications, as well as community medical facilities, counselors and shelters. This information, available in multiple languages, can help the nearly 900,000 HIV/AIDS patients in the United States(1) understand where to go for specific healthcare needs and what resources are available to treat and manage the disease. As a result, the approximately 40,000 people newly infected with HIV each year(2)could potentially begin treatment sooner, prolong their lives and substantially enhance the quality of life they lead.
The Health Station is a digital, freestanding kiosk which measures blood pressure, heart rate, weight and Body Mass Index (BMI), as well as conducts overall health screenings. HIV/AIDS outreach programs can place these kiosks in non-threatening, non-clinical settings such as restaurants, subways and drugstores and encourage patients to monitor their health. The Internet and telephone equipped Health Station also enables users to immediately schedule medical or counseling appointments. In addition, outreach programs can equip the systems to dispense vouchers redeemable for food, healthcare supplies or transportation. The CSI Health Station also offers a survey feature that can be adapted to provide an HIV/AIDS Risk Assessment along with other quality of life measurements.
"CSI is pleased to help outreach programs ensure HIV/AIDS patients receive critical treatment information and quality care," says Charles Bluth, founder and CEO of CSI. "The Health Station has proven its ability to empower users to be proactively involved in their own healthcare. It is now our mission to make Health Stations an integral part of HIV/AIDS outreach initiatives throughout the country, to help reduce the number of untreated or underserved patients by quickly delivering life-saving information."
This innovative outreach solution addresses the key concern of anonymity among HIV/AIDS patients. It is estimated that there are over 80,000 unreported cases of HIV/AIDS in the United States(3) and approximately 300,000 people who may not know they are infected with HIV(4). One of the primary reasons for patients not getting tested or reporting their condition is fear of revealing their identities and the Health Station protects patients by enabling them to remain anonymous.
The CSI Health Station accurately measures blood pressure, heart rate, Body Mass Index (BMI) and weight. Other non-invasive devices such as pulse oximetry and spirometry are also available as options. The system's patented blood pressure measurement technology is renowned as the most accurate, non-invasive, automated methodology in existence. It utilizes all three of the accepted non-invasive measurement techniques; auscultatory (sound), oscillometric (pressure) and pattern identification and analyzes 6,500 samples to determine a single blood pressure result. The Health Station also has telehealth capabilities, allowing users to communicate immediately with healthcare providers and transfer test results and information, insuring rapid response and treatment. The system also incorporates a Personal Medical Record feature, affording consumers the opportunity to compile data, store test results and review or print for physician visits.
City, county or state outreach programs can incorporate Health Stations into their initiatives through funding provided by sources such as the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Ryan White Funding or via Community Service Plans (CSP). For additional information about how Health Stations can be used in HIV/AIDS outreach programs, contact Bob Sullivan, executive vice president, CSI, at 775-359-1191 or via email at bsullivan@computerized-screening.com.
