In a news release, the Association for the Promotion of Traditional Medicine, an international non-governmental organisation based in Dakar, said the congress will discuss the role of traditional medicine in the global fight against AIDS. It said the meeting will bring together traditional medicine organisations, researchers, modern researchers, modern practitioners, policy makers, media and persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Representatives of traditional medicine organisations from 15 African and Polynesia will also participate in the two-day congress to be held under the patronage of President Abdou Diouf.
The recommendations of the congress are to be submitted later to the 13th International AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa July 2000.
